Out of this World

Travelling further south from Christchurch we stopped in for lunch at the Famous Sheffield Pie Shop – both our pies were incredible! Definitely recommend to anyone travelling through the area.

We enjoyed a few hours at Lake Tekapo. Laying in the sun on the rocky beach, walking around the lakeside and visiting the little church (The Church of the Good Sheppard) which has a large glass window taking up most of the main wall behind the altar overlooking the lake and the mountains – the most stunning church, perfect for some meditative prayer (but no photos allowed) …

To celebrate our 5 Year Wedding Anniversary Kadin booked us in for a dinner at a Japanese restaurant, (Kohan) in Tekapo. With our table overlooking the lake we enjoyed fresh High Country Salmon in our sushi rolls. We had also located a real unique experience through airbnb to celebrate our anniversary… The Apollo 11 Spaceship of Pukaki…

We had this spaceship to ourselves for two nights. Located next to the local airstrip we enjoyed watching the little planes and helicopters taking off in the morning and afternoons. It was also positioned perfectly to take in the mountain landscapes with Mount Cook (Aoraki) situated right in the centre.

On Saturday we ventured closer to Mount Cook (Aoraki). On our way into the National Park, we stopped in at Lake Pukaki. Kadin braved the chilly water temperature and dove in for an early morning swim…

We then enjoyed a three hour hike along Hooker Valley Track which leads to Mueller and Hooker Lakes overlooking the glaciers. The weather was very warm and we even stopped to put our feet in the icy water of one of the streams during our walk to cool down. Getting low on drinking water, we resorted to drinking glacial water from the stream too!

Later that night we were treated to a perfect cloudless night (unfortunately we had quite a few clouds the night prior). We had heaps of fun playing around with the camera to bring you the following photos from our space ship…

Have fun at work!
